A Guided
Science Experiment within a Website
This product is an online tour that guides the user through
a scenario in that the Inquiry Tool could be used. This
"Guided Experiment" is implemented in the website
of the SpacePlanting Project.

NLS Competency 3 - Design of NLS applications
or components of an application |
The designed and programmed components within this class are the "SpacePlanting
Website" and "Guided Science Experiment". In the following
descriptions I will focus on explaining the "Guided Science Experiment".
Description: The goal of this product is to help
the user to be able to imagine the scientific context of application
as well as to describe the features of the InquiryTool by providing
a step by step walk through.
The "Guided Science Experiment" was a consequent step after
starting the design development of the InquiryTool and developing
an activity framework within that the InquiryTool can be used. In
order to show the potential of the InquiryTool and the activity framework,
a environment needed to be created that connects both: a online tutorial
and walk through activity scenario to describe the context within
that the InquiryTool can be used. The "Guided Science Experiment"
leads the user page by page through the task of optimizing growing
conditions for a specific plant by controlling one condition. This
task is an example of what students do when learning the principles
of plant growth by doing plant growth experimentation. After introducing
the task the user is lead through the steps using the InquiryTool
that is presented side by side with the guiding instructions. The
user can follow the step by step procedure to find out how the features
of the InquiryTool are used within the context of the given task.
